Come configurare la stampante multifunzione Samsung SCX 4833 su Ubuntu

Istruzioni passo passo

You should be root

sudo -s

Adding the repository of Samsung Unified Driver for Debian based distributions

echo "deb http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/ debian extra" >/etc/apt/sources.list.d/samsung-drivers.list
wget -O - http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/suldr.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
apt-get update

It is necessary if Samsung Unified Drivers has been previously installed

/opt/Samsung/mfp/uninstall/uninstall.sh

Install driver packages from repository

apt-get install cupsys-common samsungmfp-netdiscovery samsungmfp-network \
samsungmfp-scanner samsungmfp-driver samsungmfp-data \
samsungmfp-configurator-qt3 samsungmfp-configurator-data

Ubuntu seems be confortable with this (if you prefer installing qt4 version)

mv -f /usr/lib/libquiloaderex.so.4 /usr/lib/libquiloaderex.so
ln -sf /usr/lib/libquiloaderex.so /usr/lib/libquiloaderex.so.4
ldconfig

Returning desktop user

exit
scanimage -L

It shows something like that, take note of $IP_ADDRESS

device ‘smfp:SAMSUNG SCX-483x 5x3x on 192.168.1.6’ is a SAMSUNG SCX-483x 5x3x on 192.168.1.6 Flatbed Scanner

May be useful or not, reboot may be required

Usare lo scanner fronte/retro

In Ubuntu 10.04 utilizzando Simple Scanner 1.0.3 non si riescono a fare scansioni fronte/retro. Anche con Xsane 0.996 non è immediato fare scansioni fronte/retro.

Using Ubuntu 10.04 and its Simple Scanner 1.0.3 is not possible using auto-feeder double/sides scanner. Also using Xsane 0.996 this seems not possible.

gscan2pdf

Si può utilizzare efficacemente gscan2pdf però non supporta l'alimentatore fronte/retro automatico quindi servono due passaggi.

It is possible to use gscan2pdf but it does not support automatic feeder on both sides then it requires two steps for scanning both sides.

sudo apt-get install gscan2pdf

Samsung Unified Driver Configurator

In compenso utilizzando il tool fornito da Samsung è possibile fare scansioni fronte/retro.

However using the Samsung graphic tool it is possible to use auto-feeder double/sides scanner.

/opt/Samsung/mfp/bin/Configurator &

Premere sul tasto che mostra lo scanner (il secondo a sinistra)
Selezionare lo scanner da utilizzare (SCX-483x 5x3x $IP_ADDRESS)
Premere il tasto "Properties…"
Selezionare "ADF Duplex - Long-Edge Binding" in "Document Source"
Premere il tasto "SCAN" (in alto, il secondo da sinistra)
Press on the scanner button (the second on the left)
Select the scanner to use (SCX-483x 5x3x $IP_ADDRESS)
Press on the button "Properties…"
Select "ADF Duplex - Long-Edge Binding" in "Document Source"
Press on the button "SCAN" (on the top, the second from the left)

A questo punto si aprirà una nuova finestra detta Image Manager nella quale saranno presenti tutte le facciate scansionate da salvare

At this point a new windows will pop-up called Image Manager in which you will find all the images by the scanner, to save them

Menu -> File -> Save All …
Files of type: Multipage TIFF (*.tiff; *.tif)
Give a path/filename and Save

A questo punto il file è da convertire in PDF utilizzando i seguenti comandi a seconda della tipologia:

The you probably want convert this file into a more common used PDF, then a command should be given:

Se B/N oppure risoluzione ridotta (max 150dpi) allora

If the images are B/W or they are scanned at low resolution (max 150dpi) then

tiff2pdf -z path/filename.tiff -o path/filename.pdf

altrimenti se a colori oppure ad alta risoluzione allora

otherwise if you used colors or big image size then

tiff2pdf -j path/filename.tiff -o path/filename.pdf

La differenza sta nella diversa tipologia di compressione dell'immagine, ZIP (lossless) oppure JPEG.

The difference is into compression algorithm used, in the firs ZIP (lossless) in the second JPEG.
